VIS 1430 Lighting & Cinematography
This course introduces students to the foundational principles and technical skills of cinematography and lighting for video production. Emphasizing visual storytelling, students will gain functional competence in composition, camera operation, lens selection, lighting design, and exposure control. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate the ability to collaborate on set, translate conceptual ideas into visual form, and produce technically sound footage that meets professional entry-level standards.

- Demonstrate professional entry-level competence in technical video production by applying key concepts of exposure, white balance, focal length, camera movement, and LUT workflow. Through hands-on experience, operate video production equipment with precision, employing industry-standard techniques to achieve visual consistency and creative expression. Projects will reflect a student's ability to make informed technical and aesthetic decisions that support storytelling and meet professional production standards.
- Collaborate effectively on a large-scale video production, demonstrating the ability to navigate group dynamics, resolve conflicts, divide responsibilities equitably, and maintain clear and professional communication throughout the production process.
- Edit multiple video and audio sources into a cohesive final product that incorporates graphics and lower-thirds, demonstrating technical mastery, effective communication of artistic intent, and the ability to adapt the final output to meet the needs of a defined audience.
